The search is on to find the Grand Champion of Darts in Ireland.
The Ireland Players' Championship is a new concept for the sport of darts in Ireland and it is open to all players {male and female} throughout the country. The Championship will be played over six rounds at different venues on a monthly basis and a Rankings system will be put in place with points being awarded to the last sixteen players at each venue. Matches in each round of the Championship will be the best of 9 legs of 501 except the semi-finals and final which shall be the best of 11 legs. After the 6th. round the top thirty players on the Rankings List will be invited to compete in the Grand Finals of the Championship and with an prize fund in excess of € 12,000 on offer it is expected that all of the top players in the country will turn up for the event.
Entries are already flooding in for Round One of the Championship which will be held in O'Shea's Hotel, Tramore, Co. Waterford, on Saturday, January 14th., at 12 noon, in conjunction with the Tramore Winter Gala. On the same weekend there will be Singles and Doubles competitions for Men and Ladies as well as Youths' events for players under-18 and under-21. Intending participants in the Players' Championship are reminded that January 9th. is the closing date for receipt of entries. The Players' Championship will move to Kilkenny on February 5th., when Round Two will be played in Shirley's Pub, Kells, and there will be further rounds in Kildare, Cork, Dundalk and Limerick.
